Waverley Council’s proposed rebuilding Surf Club

BATAS is questioning the costs associated with Waverley Council’s proposed rebuilding of the Bronte Surf Club, as the council has only provided vague estimates for the total costs of the Bronte and Tamarama rebuilds. We view this lack of transparency as a breach of public trust.

While the council allocates millions to surf club tavern-like facilities, full-time lifeguards are already employed to manage beach safety daily. This raises concerns about whether political motives are driving these expenditures. The community deserves a full investigation, public debate, and complete disclosure of the total costs and justifications behind these projects, especially in alcohol-free zones where young club members require functional facilities, not taverns.
